Asha-Ray of Hope was established in November 2002 by nine founding members-physicians, social workers and other community leaders who had come across South Asian Domestic Violence Victims in their professional or community service activities. These nine founding members Nita Chabria, Sobhana Davda, Dr. Rani Lakhi, Amar Pandey, Shaila Patankar, Dr. Kasturi Rajadhyaksha, Sujatha Reddy, Mira Satiani and Dr. Janak Wadwa. These founding members formed the first Board of Trustees and elected Dr. Rani Lakhi as President for two years (2002-2004).
First Executive Committee:
Dr. Rani Lakhi President
Amar Pandey Vice President
Dr. Kasturi Rajadhyaksha Secretary
Shaila Patankar Treasurer
Under this dynamic group, ASHA-Ray of Hope got organized, achieved non-profit and 501 C(3) status and launched several programs to create awareness and educate the community about domestic violence.
After two successful and productive years, the first Board and Executive Committee members paved the way for a new team. The elected members of the Second Executive Committee are:
Mira Satiani President
Dr. Janak Wadwa Vice President
Debarati Bardhan Secretary
Uma Bhatt Treasurer
Upon successful term completion, three members of the first Board of Trustees moved on to continue to work as volunteers for ASHA-Ray of Hope and created opportunities for Diane Patel, Dr. Shanta Balaswamy and Subha Lembach to be elected to the Board of Trustees and serve alongside other dedicated and committed individuals.
